After the resounding success of our silent film presentation last season, we are delighted to welcome back Minima this year to accompany a screening of The Phantom of the Opera.
Minima are an acclaimed four-piece band, formed in 2006, specialising in silent-film accompaniment using a variety of instruments to produce their distinctive sound. As well as entertaining us last year, Minima have performed to accompany a broad repertoire of silent films in many different venues, including London’s Barbican earlier this year.
Many times remade and re-interpreted, this 1925 silent version of The Phantom of the Opera, starring Lon Chaney in the title role, remains a cinematic feast. There are elaborate sets, colour tinting, and even a key scene shot in an early form of Technicolor.
This should prove to be a fun evening, enjoyable even by those of a sensitive disposition! This special event is included in our programme at no extra charge for CFS members. Make sure you don’t miss it, so save the date: 24 October, 19:45.
