Our next film, on Tuesday January 29 at 19:45, will be The Piano. This will be the first of our CFS Extra films for this year. CFS Extra is a package of three older films selected to explore a particular theme or genre. This year we are looking at the work of female directors.
The Piano was directed by Jane Campion, a New Zealand woman, and released in 1993. It is a wild, romantic, uncomfortable film with an unusually melodic score from the British minimalist master Michael Nyman.
Before the film there will be a five-minute introductory talk by John Morrish. This will explore some of the ideas behind this year’s CFS Extra as well as providing a bit of background on this very odd director and her weird and wonderful film.
